Corruption and scandals
- Peshtera election, 2005. According to Mediapool (06.11.2005), after the mayoral runoff in Peshtera the spokesman of the Central Election Commission for Local Elections (CIKMI), Aleksandar Aleksandrov, said a report had arrived about fake ballots for "the declared winner in Peshtera Vasil Filev", and added: "The candidate himself wanted the CEC to recognise them as valid. This is absolutely inadmissible." (our translation). He said the violations in Peshtera and Pernik-Iztok, documented in police reports, could lead to the results being annulled if appealed. The outlet describes Filev as an independent candidate, elected with 50.05% against 49.95% for Pavel Tilev (a difference of ten votes); the article does not report how the matter ended and gives no further details identifying the candidate. ClubZ (28.04.2026) describes MP Vasil Filev as a "candidate for mayor from NDSV in Peshtera" (our translation). — Mediapool, 06.11.2005, clubz.bg
