Corruption and scandals

• Severen kindergarten contract to a firm under European Public Prosecutor's Office investigation. TrafficNews writes that the district chose Korekt Faktor EOOD, managed by Iliya Gerdzhikov, to build the new kindergarten; according to the outlet the firm is under investigation by the European Public Prosecutor's Office for misuse of public funds. Its bid (BGN 6,584,960.44 excl. VAT against an estimated BGN 6,600,000) is the highest among the participants, the others being considerably lower, while the tender criterion was the lowest price. Marica reports that the decision was signed by her; the tender committee did not accept the lowest bid, by Zapryanovi-03 OOD, as it did not meet the requirements on how the work is organised, and the company's manager, Vakril Zapryanov, will appeal over the one-million-leva gap. In her reasons she states: "No decisions in breach of the Public Procurement Act and/or the interests of the contracting authority were taken during the procedure" (our translation). • Powers removed over a construction on the Maritsa dike. The mayor of Plovdiv, Kostadin Dimitrov, confirmed to 24 Chasa that he has removed the powers of the Severen district mayor over the construction on the dike of the Maritsa river. According to the paper, the step followed protests by neighbouring residents of Maritsa Gardens, who say the new residential building undermines the dike and poses a danger in a flood. — 24 Chasa, 29.04.2026
• Tender for the Veselo Selo plot cancelled. Novini247 reprints a TrafficNews piece stating that by a public order of 19.10.2026 she cancelled the tender to lease the plot of the former Veselo Selo restaurant for 10 years at EUR 790 a month, after the site's publications and an opinion from the municipal lawyers. The order relies on a letter of 14 October from the head of the Legal and Regulatory Services directorate of Plovdiv Municipality, Iliyan Ivanov, which found breaches of the procedural rules laid down in the municipal-property ordinance. • PP withdrew its political confidence from her. The Executive Council of We Continue the Change found, BTA writes citing the party's Plovdiv press office, that communication with the Severen district mayor had been broken from the very start of the mandate. Focus quotes the statement: "It was decided that PP distances itself from all her actions and inactions in this period" (our translation), and adds as one of the reasons that she is deputy chair of Volt, a former coalition partner that is no longer part of the PP-DB alliance.
