Corruption and scandals
- Convicted over a cyclist's death. On 22 October 2019 his car hit and killed a cyclist on the road between Kormyansko and Petko Slaveykov, Sevlievo municipality. In October 2023 the Gabrovo Regional Court found him guilty of causing death by negligence, accepting that the victim had contributed to the crash, and gave him one year suspended with a three-year probation period and a one-year driving ban. The Veliko Tarnovo Court of Appeal upheld the verdict in full. A Supreme Court of Cassation panel of Maya Tsoneva, Bonka Yankova and Kalin Kalpakchiev found no error in that assessment and made the sentence final. — RFE/RL, 4 July 2024, DeFakto, 3 December 2024
- A request to lift his immunity in the crash case. Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev filed it with the 47th National Assembly so that the criminal proceedings could continue: he had been sent to trial charged with causing death by negligence, and in December 2021 the Gabrovo Regional Court suspended the case because he had acquired immunity. DeFakto writes that he waived that protection himself. — BNT, 1 February 2022, DeFakto, 3 December 2024
- Trial halted on medical grounds on the day he registered a candidate list. On 27 February 2023 the Gabrovo Regional Court halted the proceedings until his recovery, on the findings of a court-appointed expert. The regional site zaistinata.com writes that he did not appear at the hearing, but "hours later he came to the Regional Election Commission in Gabrovo to register the DPS list" (our translation), and that during the hearing he attended a lecture by MEP Ilhan Kyuchyuk in Veliko Tarnovo, as he himself posted on Facebook. — zaistinata.com, 1 March 2023
Other
- Expelled from the DPS group after voting against Peevski's line. RFE/RL lists him among the 15 DPS MPs who refused to back the GERB-nominated cabinet of Rosen Zhelyazkov. On 11 July 2024 the DPS expelled 17 MPs from its group, him among them, Club Z reports. — Club Z, 11 July 2024, RFE/RL, 4 July 2024
