Communist Party and State Security

• His maternal grandfather – deputy head for State Security in Vratsa (according to Grigor Lilov). The journalist Grigor Lilov said in a 2009 interview: "Irena Krasteva's father is Col. Angel Krastev, a former deputy head of the State Security directorate in Vratsa" (our translation). Irena Krasteva is Delyan Peevski's mother. The official history of the Vratsa regional police directorate confirms the post: "deputy head for State Security – Angel Krastev, replaced in 1979" (our translation). Corruption and scandals

• US and UK sanctions for corruption. On 2.06.2021 the US Treasury (OFAC) sanctioned Peevski under the Global Magnitsky Act for corruption, together with Vassil Bozhkov, Ilko Zhelyazkov and 64 linked companies; the State Department also designated him under Section 7031(c). According to the Treasury, Peevski "used Zhelyazkov to conduct a bribery scheme involving Bulgarian residency documents for foreign persons" and "negotiated with politicians to provide them with political support and positive media coverage in return for receiving protection from criminal investigations". The United Kingdom has also sanctioned him. Peevski is appealing the US sanction; in parliament on 6.11.2025 he said: "We are appealing the American one.
