Connection with the criminal communist organization:

- Ivan Kostov was born in Sofia. There is no information about his family economic and political status

- In 1985, he worked as a research consultant in the Scientific Research Institute “Predicting the socio - economic development of Bulgaria”. The Communist Party trusted him and let him participate in the development of the outlook of the national economy. This was a very responsible job even for a Party member and Kostov was not a member of the Party.

- In 1988 and 1989 Ivan Kostov stubbornly attempted to join the Communist Party. In connection with his party nomination, he was investigated by the State Security which started rumors about his ideological deviations.

- In late 1989s and early 1990s, when the opposition party - Union of Democratic Forces was already created, Kostov published two articles that advise the Communist Party how to eliminate the opposition in the communist newspaper "workers’ deeds ".

- His article "Anatomy of Illusions" was printed in the magazine "Fatherland" on July 11th, 1989 which had wide repercussions. It was published just a few months before the coup and it was used by Andrei Lukanov in the report on the 13th of July 1989 on an extended meeting of the Politburo of the Communist Party. This is how Ivan Kostov contributed the reformers in Communist Party headed by Andrei Lukanov.

 

Connection with Russia:

- After 1970, he applied for an airplane pilot in Bulgarian Airlines Balkan and went to school in Kremenchuk, Ukraine, where he resided for about two months.

- In the period 1982 - 1984 Ivan Kostov was a listener at the Institute for training in Moscow. As a graduate student he defended a thesis on "Economic growth: structure and factors in production", and becomes a candidate of Economic Sciences.

- After Moscow, Kostov worked as an assistant at the Lenin University in the Department of Political Economy in the Center for ideological disciplines. In 1985, He was given a Ph.D. degree in economics and is employed as a research consultant in the Scientific Research Institute "Predicting the socio - economic development of Bulgaria”.
