- There is no information at the moment about Parvanov’s family being affiliated with the communist party.
- Georgi Parvanov was a member of the Communist Party from 1981 until 2001. In December 1989 he was a founding member of the nationalist organization “National Committee For The Protection Of National Interests”. On the 40th Congress of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (December 1991) he was elected to the Executive Board of the Supreme Council. On 41th Congress of the BSP (3-6 June 1994) he was elected Vice-Chairman of the Supreme Council of the party. On the 42nd extraordinary congress of the BSP (21-23 December 1996) he was elected a chairman of the Supreme Council of the BSP. On 43th (1-2 May 1998) and the 44th Congress of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (6-7 May 2000) was re-elected as a chairman of the Supreme Council of the BSP. He left the party after his election as President of Bulgaria in 2001 and restored its membership in 2012 after his second presidential term.
- On March 7, 2014 National Council of the Bulgarian Socialist Party expell Georgi Parvanov, Rumen Petkov, Evgeniy Zhelev, Rositsa Yanakieva, Iveta Stankova and other prominent members of the National Assembly of the Socialist Party, because of the creation of a new branch of the Communist Party by the name of ABV.
- Georgi Parvanov apart from being a part of the communist party was also a snitch of the communist state security services with the alias name of Gotse.
