- His response to the charges. According to The Sofia Globe, the investigation behind the charges was opened in November 2009 against an unknown perpetrator, and the bribe he is charged with was meant to secure the authorisation of VAT refund payments to two companies contracted by State Fund Agriculture. After the charges became public he told the agency Focus that the case had been prepared for a long time and was a tool of the socialists in their election campaign. He said he was not afraid of the scrutiny and blamed it on the denunciations Kalina Ilieva had been making to various institutions and parties for years.
